Here is the link to a recent radio interview where I discussed the contents of my book, “This Is Hope: Green Vegans and the New Human Ecology”. Understand it’s contents and you’ll understand the mission of Green Vegans, the organization (greenvegans.org).
Green Vegans will be giving out brochures at the Royal Meridian 16 in downtown Seattle this Saturday, November 9, 2013 as people exit the movie, “Free Birds”. Because 1:30; 2:05; 3:55; and 4:30 are the exit times when we pass them out, please arrive 15 minutes prior. The brochures are produced by United Poultry Concerns (UPC.org) and inform movie-goers what turkeys suffer in the industry. NARN will distribute recipe flyers. All organizations are encouraged to attend under your own banner and materials but know that Green Vegans has 500 fliers and that’s it.
Here’s the movie description: “In this hilarious, adventurous buddy comedy for audiences of all ages, directed by Jimmy Hayward, two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history – and get turkey off the Thanksgiving menu for good.” – Rated PG – Animation/Comedy
Director: Jimmy Hayward – Cast: Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Amy Poehler, Dan Fogler, Lesley Nicol.
NARN members are being notified and should respond using their contact information. Please email or phone which times you are able to attend. Note that the first two exit times require an hour and a half or less of being at the theater. The same applies to the second two exit times.
Please confirm with Will which times you can be there. email@example.com / 206.715.6414
Tomorrow, October 2, is World Day for Farmed Animals, a time to remind people around the Earth that meat, dairy, and eggs contain terrible contaminants: vast environmental destruction and the loss of biodiversity; soul-wrenching pain and psychological violence directed at billions of sentient individuals from other species–including fish; global warming; grains that were bought to supply animal agriculture and drove up prices in competition with the impoverished half of humanity, people who need those grains to survive; and a host of human diseases associated with consuming animal parts and “products” that drive up the cost of national health care.
You can find the event nearest to you at:http://org2.salsalabs.com/o/7379/p/salsa/event/common/public/search.sjs?distributed_event_KEY=299 (scroll down to where the October 2nd events begin)
Here is the information for Seattle: http://org2.salsalabs.com/o/7379/p/salsa/event/common/public/index.sjs?event_KEY=68290
Don’t forget that whether or not you can attend, remind people about World Day for Farmed Animals on your social media pages (more than once), in conversations with friends, and personal rituals to rededicate yourselves to continue the joy you get working to stop animal agriculture.
For the past few months, I’ve been posting twice-weekly excerpts from This Is Hope: Green Vegans and the New Human Ecology / How we find our way to a humane and environmentally sane future at the book’s website.
I chose this section of the book because it responds to the false assumptions and inaccuracies Pollan employs in his book; these are the most common misconceptions held by people who believe in the myth of “humane” meat, dairy, and eggs (see www.humanemyth.org). Since I do not post my blog regularly on the Green Vegans website, I ask that you subscribe to www.thisishopethebook.com.
And if you’ve not yet purchased the paperback using the Green Vegans link on the home page, or the eBook version from any online book retailer, please do so now. The book is the foundational document upon which the purpose of Green Vegans the organization rests. Though the book and organization are separate entities, a donation will be made to Green Vegans if you order from the home page.
Time is not standing still. Please get the book, read it, and then use its contents to educate friends and strangers about how veganism is required for ecosystems and us to survive. There’s more as well, but we need to raise the level of discussion about veganism. It is at the core of what comes next on Earth.
Worldwide demonstrations are planned to coordinate with the Earthlings – No Longer Blind to Injustice event taking place in Tel Aviv, Israel. To find your city where organizations are already planned, go to https://www.facebook.com/events/465791990184181/
Part 8 of 16 describes the food chains that occur in nature. They have little in common with the fallacies Omnivore’s Dilemma wants you to believe in. See www.thisishopethebook.com.
Just posted this last installment. It is essential we understand the neo-carnists who believe their support for smaller-scale animal agriculture will stop the destruction of ecosystems and create “humane” meat, dairy, and eggs. Included in this post are a few facts you can use while talking with others. Go to www.thisishopethebook.com.
We are at part four of sixteen in a series that critiques Michael Pollan’s book, “Omnivore’s Dilemma”. Go to WIll Anderson’s blog, www.thisishopethebook.com. This Is Hope: Green Vegans and the New Human Ecology / How we find our way to a humane and environmentally sane future, explains and documents the need for the vegan new human ecology.
We need to update the worldviews and policies in both the environmental and much of the species’ rights nonprofit organizations. Years in the making, developments in farmed animal policies (the “rotten egg bill”) in several organizations are misleading in their avowed benefits. The collaborations made by HSUS, FARM, Mercy for Animals, Compassion over Killing, among others with the butchers and retail businesses such as Whole Foods and the Wolfgang Puck brand is an environmentally bankrupt strategy and harms the impoverished people of the Earth. We will be posting a piece with the details and will urge you to share it with others. Expect it on or before July 22.
Green Vegans / The New Human Ecology is a 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt Organization. Donations are appreciated.
